Phish@fb.com : Report Phishing Attempts Directly To Facebook

With over 1 billion users Facebook has become the largest populated social network in the world . With the increase number of users added to Facebook , the spam attacks has been increased allot than before . Facebook security team is pretty much aware about these spams and are now fully equipped with their new tactics to tackle this issue.Well now a days spammy website’s link doesn’t longer appear as they used to appear heavily on FB .Now a days a different issue has arrived which has knocked down the security of FB users . What is it ? It is Phishing Attempts !

Now lets understand what actually Phishing is , Phishing is an attempt to acquire personal information such as usernames, passwords and mainly credit card details which is used by some other person for his/her own interest . Like i usually get more than 2 mails daily about Facebook invitation which actually looks like a real FB invitation , if you have also got the same mail in past i would suggest you not to open the link specified in that email . This is just an attempt to acquire your username along with the password such that they can use it for their own interest .

Mainly Phishing is carried out my email spoofing which we have already mentioned above and the other one is instant messaging .Like we have seen many people spams our inbox with useless messages , their main motive  is to catch user’s interest and to force the user to click on any of the link mentioned in their email . Generally they manipulate the actually link with the spammy one .

To assure enhanced security to all users ,Facebook has just made an attempt to remove all the security flaws .They have launched a simple email service mailto:phish@fb.com with which a user can report any phishing activity . They have also suggested users to forward all those suspicious emails to the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@antiphishing.org, the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov, and the Internet Cr1me Complaint Center.

Facebook has also made a official note which users can read here - https://www.facebook.com/notes/facebook-security/new-protections-for-phishing/10150960472905766  .They also stated that if users reports any suspicious site they will surely request for browser blacklisting and site takedowns where appropriate . they also giving as assurance to secure accounts of this phishing victims as they are now working with eCr|me team .

Facebook Officially created a tool with which users can report any unusual activity on their Facebook account .

While rare, we hope that you forward us any phishing attempts you encounter. Together we can help keep these sites off the web and hold the bad guys responsible. As a reminder, you can visit www.facebook.com/hacked if you think your account may be compromised.

Follow these two guidelines :

  • Be suspicious of any email with urgent requests for login or financial information, and remember, unless the email is digitally signed, you can’t be sure it wasn’t forged or ‘spoofed’ .
  • Don’t use the links in an email, instant message, or chat to get to any web page if you suspect the message might not be authentic or you don’t trust the sender, instead navigate to the website directly .

Follow these two guidelines and open links of trusted sites from FB , Hence you can protect Facebook account from Phishing attempts .
